ASSIGNMENT 2: KLUCKHOLN-STRODTBECK's CULTURAL MODEL OF ANALYSIS

Cultural is the pattern of variations within a society or more specifically, as the pattern of deep-level values and assumptions associated with societal effectiveness, shared by an interacting group of people. Cultural are more related to the custom and traditions. Cultural apply by group of people, if only particular person apply it, it was not consider as a cultural but it become a habits.
According to kluckhohn-strodbeck’s cultural model it have 6 dimension and it can related and apply for article Amid Treetops and Astride Camels. First dimension is natural of human.They have two kind which is good or evil and change or changeable. Good or evil is the basic natural of people is essential good or evil, mean that how people think about other for a first time. Change or unchangeable is the basic natural of human to change themselves. In this term we evaluate that American thinking are not changes about the other countries. They thought that other country are not develop at all. For example the writer have been asked by the American whether a Malaysian live in trees. Other example is a son of a Pakistani have been asked by his teacher if they rode around on camels in her homeland. We can see here, even though now is a millennium time, the people are still thinking about the past cultural of others country.
Dimension two is relationship among people. They have individual, collective and hierarchy. Individual is primary responsibility to and for ourselves as individual and our immediate families. Collective is our primary responsibility is to and for a larger extended group of people such as an extended family or society. Hierarchical is when a power and responsibility are natural unequally distributed through out society. Those higher in this hierarchy have power over and responsibility for those lower.This dimension describe about how people communicate among them, how them cooperate and what kind of method they use in respect people. In that article we assume a character in that article which is a powered American executive from a multicultural oil company was a individualism. It is because he do not try to know other country,he only concern and learn more knowledge about his country. He only try to get some information about other country when he needed for example to his assignment destination. We can conclude this particular person has no initiative to learn about other countries early.
Dimension tree is relation to broad environment they have 3 type of the relation to broad environment; there are mastery, subjugation and harmony. This is about the relation to the broad environment. First, by the mastery, there are about when we should control direct in change the environment around us. For example when we have power to do something, we not afraid to do something with the environment. It is because we are the supreme in that place. Then, subjugation is about we should not try to change the basic direction of the broader environment around us and we should allow ourselves to be influence by a larger natural or supernatural element. For example, we not try to change our life but always let time decide to their fate. Lastly, harmony is about when we should strive to maintain a balance among the elements of environment including ourselves.
Based on the article the writer relate that the subjugation. It is because, when we should not try to change the basic direction of the broad environment around us and we should allow ourselves to be influence by a larger natural or supernatural element. For the thinking, people should be considered all aspects of a situation carefully and rationally before taking action. Means that, they take the time to give their decision. And for the last, being people should be spontaneous, and do everything in its own time. Based on the article title “Amid Treetops and Astride Camels”, the writers related the thinking. The words “the wicked Soraya decided to get her own back, perhaps out of a sense of frustration at the prevailing ignorance, perhaps out of a sheer sense of mischief. Meaning to say, Soraya take the time to give her decision.
Dimention five is a time. Situation on what is the culture focus on past, present, and future. People are different in valuing the time. Past is our decision criteria should be guided mostly by tradition. For example, when the person get a good achievement for the first time, enough for him to get this recognition and not try to get again. Meanwhile present is our decision criteria should be guided mostly by immediate needs and circumstances and future is decision criteria should be guided by predicted long term future needs. That executive will be posting to Malaysia means that executive already got the permission to make a transfer from Malaysia Government. It shows that Malaysia is one of the private countries that only receive someone who will not give or make any problem and trouble to the country.

we know that ur group need to put all the dimension of kluckhohn - strodbeck's model. so maybe this is tough for you guys.
however,you made a gud job bcox we easy to understand ur point eventhough sometimes ur point is long enough...:)
