Confiscated ? Grab ? Snatch or Coup d'état ? By Group 5 !!!

Salam..

As we have been questioned before in the earlier blogs, how if we couldn't answer the questions given by Miss Peesha in class. The answer is B.L.O.G !!! HaHaHa. Very the technologism ! Its interesting rather than presenting infront of the class :-P

Now, we are having dificulty to decide what is the suitable term for “ Rampasan Kuasa” in english..

So here, we want to share with u the result of our discussion during the process of finding that term. :-)

Ain - confiscated power

Qama - grab the power

Anis - snatch the power

Hafizah - arbitrarily grab the power

Jemy - Power rangers ! erkkk..

So, because of the confusing term, we come to the conclusion as it stated in the blog, it is called Coup d'état.. Pronounce it wisely, otherwise, u will suffer tongue disease. :-P

Coup d'état The sudden, forcible, using threat and illegal removal of a government, usually by the military.

The question is legal or illegal?

We can use reasonable man test – reasonable man means an ordinary person who is not expected to have any particular skill. :-P .. So, what the ordinary person will think regarding Coup ?

As a reasonable man, they will say that the Coup d'état is illegal as well as the definition, which is replace the government by using force and threat.

The question is answered already right?

Coup usually involves control of some active portion of the military. This active group expels leaders and seizes physical control of important government offices.

The coup succeeds if its opponents fail to dismiss the plotters, allowing them to consolidate (strengthen) their position, obtain the surrender or acquiescence of the citizens and surviving armed forces, and claim legitimacy.

From that, we know that the concept of military coup is opposed with the concept that practiced in our country which is democracy. Democracy is majority rule ( people will elect their leaders ) through voting.

In other words, people will choose their representative during General Election and By - election, than the representative will responsible towards society.

There are contradictions between coup and democracy concepts.

So, Military is illegal when it practiced in the democracy country. It is because in democracy country, people have their rights to choose their government WITHOUT FORCE AND THREAT.

P/s - lets think together. U have something that u are really secure bout it, let say a boy friend. How if other girls grab urs. is it fair? Would u let him to that girl? u are induced to answer this question, so that u will agree with us that the Coup is illegal.

Our oppinion on CONFISCATED POWER..

Confiscated Power or in the term of Coup D’état or often simply called a coup, is the sudden unconstitutional overthrow of a government by a (typically small) part of the state establishment. Usually the Military replaced the branch of the stricken government, either with another civil government or with a military government.

The Confiscated Power succeeds if its opponents fail to thwart it, the usurpers allow them to consolidate their positions, obtain the surrender of the overthrown government or acquiescence of the populace and the surviving armed forces, and thus claims legitimacy. Coups d’état typically use the power of the existing government for the takeover. As Edward Luttmak remarks in Coup D’état: A Practical Handbook: A coup consists of the infiltration of a small, but critical, segment of the state apparatus, which is then used to displace the government from its control of the remainder. In this sense, the use of either military or another organized force is not the defining feature of a coup d'état.

As an example, the Confiscated Power happened in Thailand in 2006. It was happened on 19th September 2006 when the Thailand Royal Army Force made the Confiscated Power on the Thailand’s Government which is rule by the Prime Minister, Thaksin Shinawatra. It was the first time happened in Thailand since fifteen years and followed by the political crisis whose involved Thaksin and his political enemy. It was happened a month before the Thailand National Election which is on 15th October 2006. The constitution had been suspended, the parliament had been dissolve and also the election had been canceled by the Royal Army. They also had declared the Army Law and detained the cabinet members. There is no injuries and dead happened during this process.

Based on the title above, the Confiscated Power legal or not? Based on our opinion, we agreed it is legal if there is an emergency in the country with the ruler approval. The emergency may happened when there is a critical political crisis, war, nature disaster and many more. During this emergency situation, the government may be dissolved by the ruler and the army will take reign. It is because when army had take over the government, all the citizens must follow the Law of Army.

It becomes not legal when the Confiscated Power suddenly happened without the reasonable matters. As an example, Malaysia is a democratic country which is the government bodies was elected by the citizens with the approval of Yang Di Pertuan Agong. Suddenly, the Malaysian Royal Army Force had accomplice to take over the reign of Malaysia by roll the government bodies. They block the parliament, detained the cabinet members and endure the Prime Minister. This kinds of Confiscated Power is not legal and its may appeal the outside helps. When these kinds of things happened it may attract other country to interrupt in settling the disputes and as we knows, it must have the bad intention to take over the country because of our mineral resources like petroleum and many more.

CONFISCATED POWER?? WHAT THAT MEAN... ?

When we talked about confiscated power...there are a lot of cases from Muammar Al Gaddaffi (1969) until the case of Thaksin sinawatra (2006). From our view, we think that we should do confiscated power if it involve the salvation of people.we took an example as what happen in Thailand in the few years ago which is army were take the country. There are about politic crisis which is involving him and his enemy in the political fielf. Its happen in less in months before election on 15 october 2006. Army has dissolve the parliament and take the country.Thailand has been ministered by the General Sonthi Boonyaratglin in a few months before they are elect a new guy to become a new minister for Thailand. Confiscated power is based on the situation and the reason why they need to confiscated the power. They must think about the interest of the people.

Teacher's Note:

Confiscated power? What's that means? Yeah ... tell me ...

At first read this entry, I couldn't help myself laughing out loud! Such a very direct translation.

My dear, that confiscating power has its own term - coup d’état [ku: deI'ta:] which refers to the sudden violent overthrow of a government and seizure of political power, especially by the military.

Coup d’état is an interesting issue when we're talking about power tactic. Well, I've to praise you on writing this issue as respond to what we've discussed yesterday. Good job.

What about looking the whole coup d’état story from the other point of view rather than stated it is something not right for the people?

HIJACKING POWER: ILLEGAL OR NOT??

Power can be defined as form of a social relationship between individual and groups. It is essentially an ability of a person to make someone else do something which he or she otherwise would not do. Without power, it is impossible for the government to maintain law and order and to pursue policies for social, economic and political development of the country.
Suddenly, we have come across to this question, hijacking the power, illegal or not?
In our opinion, it is depends on that particular country or state. It is what we called as a culture that being inherited from generation to the generation.
For the country that accepts the hijacking power thinks it is illegal, as their own government itself inherited the culture. Hijacking power will happen because of the rewards maybe psychological, material, economic or political.
The citizens are being familiar with the behavior of that particular group to take over the country or maybe others. So, they have to obey or else something bad happen to the country such as war.
As conclusion, Islam puts power in an active moral framework. It is not an end but a means to serve god, to earn a blissful eternal life and thus a source of mercy and justice for humanity.

Group 2 Blogworm: Overthrown

helooooooooo..

if the Coup d'état as the government in our country..there is invalid or illegal..this because our country is the country that implement the concept of decmocracy..actually democracy is..

"a form of government in which power is held directly or indirectly by citizens under a free electoral system"..
all members of the society (citizens) have equal access to power and the second that all members (citizens) enjoy universally recognized freedoms and liberties.
or the citizen in the country have their right to choose to determine their ruler(government)..

this process of choose the government was made in the election..this is clearly opposite the coup by the military..this is because the Coup d'état. was done by the force not by the election..other than that, usually army will do their colony by the distinct and brutal..this will limit the fundamental liberties of the citizen..

as a result the military coup is illegal and can be dissolved and the election will take to elect the new government..

*to miss, we already edit the term. Thanks by the note.

Whether overthrown is valid or not?

According to the title, the overthrown here means taking power by force.
For example, if the army of Malaysia want to use force to take a power to govern Malaysia. Is it valid for the army to take and govern???

Our answer is it is invalid. It is because, our lovely country(Malaysia) are democracy country. Democracy mean "The political orientation of those who favor government by the people or by their elected representatives". The other definition is "A political system in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who can elect people to represent them".

So,because of that thing(democracy), overthrown are invalid. All citizen have right to choose their representative and accept the representative who win the election. Except for if the army take the government and make the general election and they win the election. The process of choose the government is through the election. So, the confiscate of power is clearly illegal in democracy country.

Last but not least, the conclusion is in democracy country, the overthrown are not allowed because of the method to govern is through election, not through force.

CONTRADICTION BETWEEN TEAM AND GROUP..

Many people used the words team and group interchangeably, but there are actually a number of differences between a team and a group in real world applications. A number of leadership courses designed for the corporate world stress the importance of team building, not group building, for instance. A team's strength depends on the commonality of purpose and inter connectivity between individual members, whereas a group's strength may come from sheer volume or willingness to carry out a single leader's commands.

It is often much easier to form a group than a team. If you had a room filled with professional accountants, for example, they could be grouped according to gender, experience, fields of expertise, age, or other common factors. Forming a group based on a certain commonality is not particularly difficult, although the effectiveness of the groups may be variable. A group's interpersonal dynamics can range from complete compatibility to complete intolerance, which could make consensus building very difficult for a leader.

A team, on the other hand, can be much more difficult to form. Members of a team may be selected for their complementary skills, not a single commonality. A business team may consist of an accountant, a salesman, a company executive and a secretary, for example. Each member of the team has a purpose and a function within that team, so the overall success depends on a functional interpersonal dynamic. There is usually not as much room for conflict when working as a team.

The success of a group is often measured by its final results, not necessarily the process used to arrive at those results. A group may use equal parts discussion, argumentation and peer pressure to guide individual members towards a consensus. A trial jury would be a good example of a group in action, not a team. The foreperson plays the leadership role, attempting to turn 11 other opinions into one unanimous decision. Since the jury members usually don't know one another personally, there is rarely an effort to build a team dynamic. The decision process for a verdict is the result of group cooperation.

A team, by comparison, does not rely on "group think" to arrive at its conclusions. An accident investigation team would be a good example of a real world team dynamic. Each member of the team is assigned to evaluate one aspect of the accident. The team's expert on crash scene reconstruction does not have to consult with the team's expert on forensic evidence, for example. The members of a team use their individual abilities to arrive at a cohesive result. There may be a team member working as a facilitator for the process, but not necessarily a specific leader.

Group building can literally take only a few minutes, but team building can take years. Individual members of a group often have the ability to walk away from the group when their services or input become unnecessary. A team member's absence can seriously hamper the abilities of other team members to perform effectively, so it is not uncommon for individual members to form an exceptionally strong allegiance to the team as a whole. An elite military unit such as the US Navy SEALS or the Army Rangers could be considered examples of team building at its best.

Once a upon a time, there’s a kingdom name Little Black Dress Kingdom, they live in peacefully world, there’s no crime in the kingdom at all, each of them is very kind person, they very are overwhelming to others, all of them very cooperate and help one each other if there any problems that face by them but unlucky for them because not all of them are really commit in the Kingdom, they do they own things rather than socialize with other people to. Their occupation is farmer; they sell fruits in the market, blacksmith, carpenter, butcher and many more.

In the Kingdom, the people are very active with their organization; some of them form a group, different group, for example like environmental group, love-cat group, cartoon group, color group and many more.

Basically they form their group have same interest, they want to show their power, and they want to influence others and they also can be in a big number of people and it is not specific. When they want to do a group, they will find a people who in the same common, like they live in the neighborhood, same school or in the same workplace.

For example they form a “group the cuckoofrog dolls” which interested to save the grass and ponds in the kingdom, The leader’s name Johng Travoltang said that, he wants the grass live happily ever after, he don’t want anybody to cut it, so the others in the group will follow what he said without any objection or voice up their opinion and so forth. So the group will together forever will protect the grass grow happily ever after.

They rather do than being asked. They also don’t have any creativity and encourage to the members. In the group also, any decision is in the Johng Travoltang’s hand, nobody can argue with it, seems everybody in the group is share the same interest they follow what he said. In this group also, even one member is not doing anything, the goal of the group still not affected, they can still going on with their mission.

On one bright sunny day, The King name David Bekqhaem (say it with full emotion, haha!) and her wife, Britney Lembing feel so boring with the day, suddenly the King come up with one idea. Here, comes the conversation.

David Bekqhaem : Honey hit me one more time, I feel so boring for this week, do you have any ideas for relief the boredom in our life, ouh man?

Britney Lembing: Oh, gosh, I feel so lucky that u asking that question. I have one dear, how about we tell our citizen that tomorrow we will announce to our people that we have the Quidditch’s game! (This game is play by Harry Potter in his movie, if you don’t know that, you better watch that!) Ouh, dear I’m so excited

David Bekqham: Sure, such a beautiful idea honey! I will announce it tomorrow to the guard for them tell all the people.

Britney Lembing: Yeah, you know me dear; I always come out with brilliant and extravaganza ideas!

Tommorow, at the center of the city of Little Black Dress, two guards announce it loudly, all the people so excited to fell the excitement of the game, and the town goes crazy and wild, so noisy, people start to talk about it by mouth to mouth. Then two guards “The Hellyboboy” and “The Hulkhemsem” start to tell about the requirements in the team, everybody is silent... it goes…

The Hellboboy: Silenttttttttttttttttttt people! The King has stated some rules and regulations that must have in the team.

The Hulkhemsem: The first rule is all the members must be specific and not exceed until 7 members.

The Hellboboy: The second one is the team itself must recognize their own members and their personal and team goal, is to WIN the game.

The Hulkhemsem: The members work in the team to win, and they must encourage them in terms of express the ideas, opinions, disagreements and feelings or any questions toward the game.

The Hellboboy: Members in the group also must be open and honest communication; they also must make effort to understand each other’s point of view

The Hulkhemsem: Members are also encouraged to continually develop skills and apply what they learnt on the game; they also perceive have to support of them, don’t boycott your own team, and okay people?

The Hellboboy: Last but not least and only those committed to excellent are hired. Everyone in team also must works together in a harmonious environment.
All the people in Kingdom goes noisy with sounds of happiness, no matter what is the rules and regulation, they still want to play the Quidditch!, and they fight at the game, the best team will be rewarded a vacation trip to Dungun. (BAHAHAHAH!!)

*this is fiction only, no related with anyone. Regard and Thank you.

have u been heard " football group" ? by FULLSTOP GROUP 5 !!!

It sounds weird right? but how if we call foolball team ? lets examine together...

Jemy’s opionion : -

Team and Group are differ in terms of :

Creativity and Contribution

Group, members are told what to do rather than being asked what the best approach would be. Suggestions and creativity are not encouraged. For instance, there are 5 groups formed by Mr Tinaktintitana Sekapursirih. One of them is group A. Group A has be given an assignment. In order to make it accomplish, each members have been divided with certain tasks and the leader will tell their members what suppose to do. Since the members have been told what to do, it will encourage them to think in creative way. In terms of contribution, if 1 member doesn’t contribute to do the assignment (sleeping partner) , it will not affect the successfulness of the assignment since the other members will do the particular person’s task.

Team, members contribute to the organization’s success . For example, during the football tournament, all players will contribute their efforts in order to win that tournament. Each players may contribute their efforts in terms of talents, skills and creativity for team’s objective. Player A will make a strategy for defend, B will make a strategy for score and etc. That’s mean, each members will contribute something to achieve the team’s goal. The absence of 1 person will affect to the team. If the football team doesn’t have goal keeper, it easy for the opposition team to score. Here, their captain no need to ask their members to do since they know what to do already.

Ain says :

Understanding

Group, for example, Students have to form a group to do their assignment. So they just focused on their job in order to finish it on time. so they do not really care about the understanding between them because they just concentrate to finish their work.

Team, for example, In football team, the players already know their objectives and mission so they will support each other. They will give full commitment to their group.

Qama’s view :

Trust

Group, for example, the employee which has their own work group in workplace like group of project analysis. They work based on the analysis basically done in more than one of paper project. So they must do the analysis by group which is come out with logical ideas to make sure the work done smoothly and on the time. The members of group did not have a trusty to each other in term of opinion given, quality of work and did not understand the role of other members so that it can’t run smoothly

Team, for example, the football player team which is each player has their own position and importance to play their role like as a striker and defence. They have their own responsible to achieve the goal and run the planned strategy regarding to all member’s opinion during discussion session. They have a high of trusty level of each other due to their own ability so that they will achieve the goal.

Anis’ view :

Conflict Resolution

Group, for example, Lecturer gave one group assignment which is find one topic for doing research, so all group members will found in conflict during decide what proper topic to choose because there are too many topic and in idea given. Also in one situation all of them did not know how and what topic to choose. In this case, it involved all intervention from each member in choosing decision until the decisions are decide. In group , all members take more time in settle problem.

Team, for example, department of water commission had complaint from public in Nelayan Village which is about issue where the pipe water are had been replace by pond water , so all staff with the director in this department discuss how to settle this problem. In team, they realist conflict or this matter as normal aspect even though this are the first cased all of them facing. In doing discussion, all of staff use this situation as opportunity to collected information and will form new method to settle that problem. As this, commission water department also can be strong organization in order to face with many problem that will overcome. Nevertheless, team group also can try to settle problem as far as can and constructively.

TEAMS VS GROUPS

HELLO EVERYONE....
SINCE A LONG TIME WE NOT IN BLOG...
NOW...WE COME BACK..(HEHEHE)

Today, we want to share with you about the differences between group and team.

Firstly, let we look about the team..

A team is a small group of people with complementary skills and abilities who are committed to a common goal and approach for which they hold each other accountable. The best size for teams is 7-12 individuals. Larger teams require more structure and support; smaller teams often have difficulty meeting when members are absent. Members have skills and abilities that complement the team's purpose. Not all members have the same skills, but together they are greater than the sum of their parts. On teams, members share roles and responsibilities and are constantly developing new skills to improve the team's performance. Teams identify and reach consensus on their common goal and approach, rather than looking to a leader to define the goal and approach. Most importantly, teams hold their members accountable. When they experience conflict with a member, they speak to that member directly rather than to a supervisor. When a member isn't performing to the level required, the team addresses the performance problem.

Now, let's move to group...

A group can be defined as a small group of people with complementary skills and abilities who are committed to a leader's goal and approach and are willing to be held accountable by the leader. A group supports the leader's goals and the leader-dominated approach to goal attainment. A group drives individual accountability rather than shared accountability.Leadership is predominantly held by one person rather than the shared, fluid leadership on a team. In a group, the dominant viewpoint is represented; in a team, multiple, diverse viewpoints are represented. Decisions in a group are made by voting or implied agreement; decisions on a team are typically made by consensus.

Between team and group, which is better?

In our opinion, team is better rather than group. It is because in team, the members are fully committed to a common goal and mission that they have developed. Members must agree that the team goal is worthwhile and agree on a general approach to that goal. Such agreement provides the vision and motivation for team members to that goal. The members are mutually accountable to one another. To succeed as a team, members must feel and the outcome of their work. Moreover, members of team trust one another and the team has a collaborative culture. They also share in leadership. team achieves synergy. synergy means the process of combining two or more actions that result in an effect that differs from the total of individual action.

Compare with group, members of group are only work on a common goal. They also only accountable to manager. Beside, they do not have clear, stable culture and conflict is frequent. In group, leadership is assigned to a single person and members may accomplish their goals.

But...

Let's face it, in reality, groups are far easier to create than teams, so it makes sense to be a group when the following exist: the decisions and process are already determined, buy-in is not necessary, time is a critical factor and there is split or minimal management support for teaming.

To form the group, identify a strong, effective leader and empower the person to recruit group members, formulate the goal and approach and drive decision making. This approach would be practical for short-term projects with outcomes already defined.

So, would it be right to say that teams are good and groups are bad OR teams are bad and groups are good? or maybe you want third choice?? if so, it is depend to you what is the third choice is...

(hmmm)...what do you think about it???

Good luck to think....

HOW TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN TEAM & GROUP??

"A team is a small group of people with complementary skills and abilities who are committed to a common goal and approach for which they hold each other accountable." Let's pick this definition apart. What does this mean in practical terms? When they experience conflict with a member, they speak to that member directly rather than to a supervisor. When a member isn't performing to the level required, the team addresses the performance problem.

Now let's look at how a group functions. A group can be defined as a small group of people with complementary skills and abilities who are committed to a leader's goal and approach and are willing to be held accountable by the leader. A group supports the leader's goals and the leader-dominated approach to goal attainment. A group drives individual accountability rather than shared accountability. Leadership is predominantly held by one person rather than the shared, fluid leadership on a team. In a group, the dominant viewpoint is represented; in a team, multiple, diverse viewpoints are represented. Decisions in a group are made by voting or implied agreement; decisions on a team are typically made by consensus.

So, would it be right to say that teams are good and groups are bad? Absolutely not. A better question to ask is: when do you use a group and when do you make the extra effort to develop a team? Let's face it, groups are far easier to create than teams, so it makes sense to be a group when the following exist: the decisions and process are already determined, buy-in is not necessary, time is a critical factor and there is split or minimal management support for teaming. To form the group, identify a strong, effective leader and empower the person to recruit group members, formulate the goal and approach and drive decision making. This approach would be practical for short-term projects with outcomes already defined.

Teaming, on the other hand, should be used when you need broad buy-in for the best results, when no one person has the answer and when shared responsibility is important to the success of the goal. To achieve a real team is difficult and time-consuming. There is no magic bullet that will transform a group into a team overnight. It takes time to develop the skills to work well together and understand how to solve problems and make decisions effectively.

The next time your group or team gets together, ask the members "What would it take for us to be a real, high performance team?" Then, as you brainstorm the answer, challenge them to press forward toward being a team.

BY GROUP 3..
